Ardha Chandrasana
(The Half Moon Posture)
Ardha = Half
Chandra = Moon
Asana = Posture
This pose
is referred to as the half moon posture. This is because when the
posture is completed the curve of he body from the head to the tip of
the balancing foot resembles a crescent moon. It is first necessary to
rotate the hips to the maximum and then drop the suspended leg
down without compensating on the hip rotation. It
demands tremendous flexibility on the hip joints and strengthens the
capacity of the practitioner to open the hips.
the sexual
zone of the body is referred to in Sanskrit as the Tamasic region or the
region of darkness. A person who practices this posture often, learns to
overcome all forms of sexual inhibitions by bringing light into
the region of darkness
